Long message that comes from the bottom of the heart of Erica, the mother of the raplapla
Adopting a raplapla is not simply buying an object.
It's choosing to support a company founded and operated by women who live here, alongside you, who find a friend in the same Jean Coutu as you.
It means resisting plastic, disposable things, the impulsive purchase of an object that we only half wanted and which will add to the giant global trash can.
It's offering a newborn his very first possession, a precious companion, made with heart in our workshop rather than by another child on the other side of the world (hey no, the objects at an incredibly incredible price that we cross without questioning are not made on the moon by soulless robots).
It's knowing that we will always be there after having sold you a soft toy made in our workshop, with a repair service in the event of an overdose of cuddles or dog (or little brother) bites. Not ending up discarded despite the hard blows of existence, even if we are a little damaged, a little different, we are beautiful with our scars and the marks of time.
It's about being fair. Be sustainable. Be true.
Adopting a raplapla is a form of resistance, it is a committed gesture. A peaceful purchase.
The choice of local production, the one I made 18 years ago while drinking a latte at Toi, moi, coffee in front of my little red notebook while admiring the slow food revolution: I remember it as if it was yesterday. This choice seemed essential to me even though I was a single mother of two pearls aged 2 and 6, and so many things were uncertain, this choice was an anchor.
I still believe in it like the first day.
Our toys are quietly made in Montreal.
It's a choice of the heart, which naturally affects my entire life. On what I eat, on my family, on my links with my team, on the working conditions that I want to offer or on the collaborators and the materials around us.
I'm writing this message because it's not easy every day, leading this pretty boat. Today I need to share our reality: a big cocktail of joy of creating, of infinite love sent in return by all the owners of raplapla, of hours and hours spent at the sewing machines and the computer in my case, the fragility of the bank account, the fatigue of seeing reflected in the eyes of some that our work, as women seamstresses, is worth so little.
Raplapla is a magnificent and fragile boat, regularly for 18 years I have had to reinvent everything to continue while honoring my convictions.
We're not going through an easy time, like many of my friends who make things locally, but we're gritting our teeth to weather the storm.
All this to tell you that adopting a raplapla is much more than simply buying an object. Thank you, loyal customer. Your power, as a consumer, is immense.
